Nia Tero is a new foundation established at the end of 2017 with the mission to work in solidarity with Indigenous Peoples who sustain thriving lands and cultures to strengthen the guardianship of Earth and all beings. We aim to partner with them in the long term to support their work towards accomplishing their vision. Nia Tero is working on implementing its 2024 – 2028 strategic plan. In this phase of our organization, we seek a program manager who thrives in a dynamic environment and is flexible as the organization implements its plan.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Manager, Programs will support the Senior Managing Director, Partnerships and the Chief Program Officer with the implementation of Nia Tero’s 5-year plan. Duties include conducting research and gathering information, providing analysis, supporting events and convenings, tracking submission of grant reports, supporting monitoring activities, and other general management tasks as needed. Reporting to the Senior Manager Director, Partnerships, this position will coordinate closely with the Executive Assistant and other programmatic staff to support projects as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Management

  • Oversee day to day project management of key programmatic initiatives, including existing programmatic projects, ensuring timelines and budgets are tracked.
  • Coordinate with cross functional teams to support programmatic initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with donor requirements and organizational policies.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify programmatic needs, set objectives, and define metrics that align with strategy.

Research, Analysis, and Synthesis

  • Conduct research and organize information about Nia Tero’s partnerships and topics of interest for the regional and Wayfinders Circle Teams.
  • Analyze portfolio data, identifying trends and communicating information to guide decision making.
  • Analyze and synthesize information to support progress reporting and grant/investment development.
  • Project manage biocultural monitoring efforts supported by Nia Tero.

Grant and Contracts Management

  • Oversee the holistic programmatic grant submissions ensuring alignment with the needs of Nia Tero’s Chief Programs Officer and Senior Managing Director of Partnerships.
  • Track all programmatic contracts ensuring alignment with organizational goals, donor requirements and legal compliance.
  • In coordination with the Operations team maintain accurate records of all grants, contracts, amendments and related documents.
  • Meetings with partners and other organizations as requested and following up as needed.

PEOPLE AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will not directly supervise anyone or have direct financial oversight. The position requires discretion and cultural sensitivity. This role will provide opportunities for professional development.


QUALIFICATIONS

Required

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree on environmental sciences, social sciences, or related fields, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of related work experience.
  • Experience working with or within Indigenous communities

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience as an active listener, using diplomacy and tact to build strong relationships and motivate donors
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to successfully handle multiple tasks and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Fluency in two or more languages (e.g. English and French).
  • Excellent computer and writing skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Proven ability to work successfully in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team player, willing to help across the organization on tasks as needed.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team across different time zones.

Ideal

  • Fluency in one or more indigenous languages or indigenous lingua francas;
  • Working knowledge of Spanish, French, and/or Portuguese.
  • Basic graphic design skills.
  • Basic knowledge of GIS.

Any combination of education and professional and lived experience that provides the qualifications necessary to successfully perform the duties of this position will be considered. 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND TRAVEL 

This full-time position is ideally based in Seattle, with flexibility to work some evenings and weekend hours as needed. The team is open to considering a remote work arrangement.

This position includes approximately 30% travel to visit regions and Indigenous peoples in territory to deepen understanding of Nia Tero’s work and to support events, regional and global convenings.

  • Visually or otherwise identify, observe and assess distance, color and depth; Required to regularly communicate with others and exchange accurate information.
  • Able to operate a computer and other office productivity equipment; able to remain stationary at a computer for extended periods of time and move around his/her assigned workspace.
  • Ability to lift or move 25lbs.

The salary for this position is USD $110,000-120,000 annually based on experience. Our compensation program is U.S. based and pay ranges are representative of compensation in the U.S. market.  For positions outside of the U.S., pay rates are determined based on the applicable local regional market.

This is a full-time permanent position and qualifies for healthcare benefits (medical, dental and vision), 401K and paid time off (including vacation leave, sick leave, and personal days).
